VASCO DA GAMA
by Jerome Kessler
Vasco da Gama went to see his Mama,
Who lived on the Isle of Wight.
He set sail by day, hoping to pay
Her a visit before it was night.
The winds did blow his boat to and fro,
’Til his crew members’ faces turned green.
Their features contorted, they quickly escorted
Themselves to the bulkheads to lean.
Vasco said, “Heck, please don’t barf on the deck.
If you must, please upchuck in the sea.
Let’s hasten to port and get pills of some sort,
To steady our guts when we pee.”
They clung to the mast and landed at last,
And hurried to shave and take showers.
Then Vasco strode to his mother’s abode,
Stopping only to pick up some flowers.
His Mom cried, “You’re a mess, if I had to guess,
From spending so much time at sea.
You’d look better, my dear, if you lived more near
And would visit more often with me.
“I’ll get rid of your croup with some nice chicken soup,
So wash up and sit down and stay.”
Vasco nodded his head and sat on the bed.
“Yes, Ma. Happy Mother’s Day.”
